Ingredients
1/2 cup dhuli masoor dal
½ cup dhuli moong dal
1 medium onion-chopped
1 medium tomato-chopped
1-2 pods garlic - chopped
1/2 inch ginger - chopped
salt- to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp- corriander powder
1/2 tsp- red chilly powder
1 whole dry red chilly
1-2 pinch asafoetida
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp- garam masala
4-5 kadhi leaves
fresh corriander-for garnishing
1/2 tsp dry mango powder
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp desi ghee
Directions
Wash the 2 dals together, put 3 cups water, some salt and pressure cook for 3 whistle/ cook in microwave for 10-12 mins.In a small pan heat ghee, put cumin, mustard seeds,whole red chilly,curry leaves and asafoetida; fry for a few seconds.
Add garlic and ginger and fry till golden bron(do not over cook).
Add onions and fry til golden brown.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook till pulpy.
Add coriander powder, chilly powder, garam masala,turmeric, mango powder and salt (if more is needed); fry for a few seconds.
Pour the cooked dal and heat for 2-3 minutes, garnish with fresh coriander leaves, and sprinkle the lemon juice before serving
Serve hot and enjoy with chapati or rice.
